Getting started
The app asks for Screen Recording, Camera and Microphone permission. Why?
ShowMe needs all three to do its job: Screen Recording captures the area you frame (and powers the Test View preview), the camera feeds the face-cam bubble and Selfie mode, and the microphone records your voice. Everything is processed on your Mac and nothing is sent anywhere — see the Privacy Policy. Following your mouse for the zoom and pointer needs no extra permission.
Screen Recording permission is not working / Test View or the recording is black
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Turn on ShowMe. If it is not listed, click + and add it from Applications.
- Quit ShowMe completely and open it again. macOS only applies this permission to a freshly launched app.
If you have just updated macOS, the permission sometimes needs to be turned off and on again.
What is the small “Test View” window?
Test View is a live preview of the finished video. It opens every time ShowMe starts, so you can move the mouse, click around and see exactly how the zoom, pointer, backdrop and bubble will look before you press Record. While you record it keeps showing what is being written to the file. Drag it anywhere, resize it from a corner, or close it with the Test View button on the toolbar — it comes back the next time you open the app.
Where are my recordings saved?
The first time you press Record, ShowMe asks you to choose a folder (Movies is suggested) and remembers it. Recordings are H.264 MP4 files named “ShowMe” plus the date and time. You can change the folder any time in Settings (⚙️) › Recording › Save recordings to › Choose…, and after a recording click Saved to … on the toolbar to reveal the file in Finder.
How does the automatic zoom work, and how do I adjust or turn it off?
When you click, the video zooms in on the spot you clicked, follows your pointer near the edges and eases back out after a moment of stillness. If you drag to select text or an area, ShowMe zooms in on what you marked and stays there until your next click. Hover the Zoom button on the toolbar to set the strength (1.2×–3×) and speed (Slow, Medium, Fast); the same controls, plus an on/off switch, are in Settings › Effects. Changes apply live, even while recording.
How do the big pointer and the backdrop work?
ShowMe hides the real pointer in the video and draws its own — the same arrow, hand or text cursor, but bigger, smoother and with a ripple on each click. Pick Normal, Large or Huge, or turn it off, in Settings › Effects › Pointer or with the Pointer toolbar button. The Backdrop button frames your screen a little smaller on a background with rounded corners and a soft shadow; choose one of seven styles (or your own wallpaper) and the padding in Settings. The recording resolution does not change.
How do I record only part of the screen?
Drag the white handles of the recording frame to the area you want: corners resize both ways, the thick middle of an edge resizes one side, and the grip pill at the top moves the whole frame. Hover the pill for Full screen, 16:9 and the shape lock. You can change the frame before or during a recording. The frame, the toolbar and Test View are never included in the video.
How do Selfie mode, pause and mute work?
Selfie switches to a full-frame webcam view mid-recording so you can talk to camera, then back to the screen — all in one take. Pause stops the clock and cuts the paused time out of the file. Click Mic or Mac sound to mute or unmute either one while the recording continues.
My microphone is too quiet
Open Settings (⚙️) › Recording, pick the right microphone and raise the gain (up to 3×). The Mic button on the toolbar glows green as you speak, so you can check the level before you record.
Which Macs are supported?
Any Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple silicon or Intel. For 4K / 60 fps recordings with zoom and backdrop an Apple silicon Mac is recommended; on older machines choose 1080p or 30 fps in Settings if the recording stutters.
ShowMe Pro, trial and billing
What is ShowMe Pro and what does it cost?
Pro unlocks recording. It is a monthly subscription at €6.99 per month (or the equivalent shown in your local App Store) that renews automatically until you cancel. Where a free trial is offered to new subscribers (currently 7 days), the app and the App Store show it before you confirm and nothing is charged until it ends. Full terms in Terms of Use, section 4.
How do I start the free trial or subscribe?
Press Record, or open the ShowMe Pro screen from the ShowMe menu, and click Start Free Trial (or Subscribe). Apple will ask you to confirm with your Apple Account. When Apple confirms, the ShowMe Pro screen shows “ShowMe Pro is active” and you can start recording straight away.
Will I be charged automatically after the trial?
Yes. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, Apple charges the monthly price to your Apple Account and the subscription continues month to month. Apple also emails you a reminder before a free trial converts.
How do I cancel?
On your Mac: System Settings › Apple Account (your name) › Media & Purchases › Manage Subscriptions › ShowMe Pro › Cancel. Or inside the app: Settings (⚙️) › Manage…, or ShowMe menu › Manage Subscription…. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
I paid but the app still shows the Pro screen
Make sure your Mac is signed in to the same Apple Account you used to subscribe, then open the Pro screen or Settings and click Restore Purchases. If that does not help, email us with the order reference from your Apple receipt.
The Pro screen says it cannot reach the App Store
Check that your Mac is online and signed in to the App Store (open the App Store app and click your name at the bottom left). Then click Try Again on the ShowMe Pro screen. The app retries on its own for a while, so a brief connection hiccup usually fixes itself.
Can I get a refund?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so refunds are decided and issued by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or via Apple Support. If something in the app is not working, please contact us first — we would rather fix it.
Privacy and your data
Does ShowMe upload my recordings, track my mouse or collect data?
No. The app has no accounts, analytics, ads or network features and cannot make internet connections. The mouse position is used live to draw the zoom and pointer into the video and is never stored. Recordings and settings stay on your Mac. Read the Privacy Policy.
How do I completely remove ShowMe and its data?
Drag ShowMe from Applications to the Bin. macOS also removes the app’s settings container (~/Library/Containers/com.swiftcpc.showme). Your recordings are ordinary files in the folder you chose — delete them whenever you like. Remember to cancel the subscription separately if you no longer want it.
Still need help?
Email nnmedialtd@icloud.com or WhatsApp +353 89 252 5402. Include your macOS version, what you expected to happen and what happened instead — a short screen recording made with ShowMe itself is often the fastest way to show us. We aim to reply within one business day (Monday to Friday, Irish time).
