The short version. ShowMe has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no network features. The app never sends your recordings, your camera or microphone data, your mouse movements, or any information about you to us or to anyone else. Purchases are handled by Apple. Our App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”.
1. Who we are
ShowMe is developed and published by Nerijus Christauskas, an independent software developer based in Dublin, Ireland (“we”, “us”, “the developer”). For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Acts, the developer is the data controller for any personal data described in this policy.

2. What this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- the ShowMe application for macOS distributed through the Mac App Store (bundle identifier
com.swiftcpc.showme), including the ShowMe Pro subscription; - any directly distributed build of the same application;
- these legal and support pages hosted at
swiftcpc.com/legal/showme/.
It does not cover Apple’s services (the App Store, Apple Account, payment processing), which are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
3. What the app accesses on your Mac, and why
To record your screen with automatic zoom, a drawn pointer, a backdrop and your face in a bubble, ShowMe needs access to a small number of things on your Mac. Every one of them is processed locally on your device only. Nothing listed below is ever transmitted off your Mac by ShowMe.
| What | Why ShowMe needs it | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Screen & system audio recording | To capture the area of the screen you frame, and optionally the sound your Mac is playing, using Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit. The same capture drives Test View, the small live window that shows what the finished video will look like; Test View is a preview only and writes nothing to disk. | Written into the video file you save (Test View: shown on screen only). Never uploaded. |
| Camera | To show your webcam inside the face-cam bubble and in Selfie mode so it appears in your recording. The camera is only active while ShowMe is open and the bubble or Selfie view is visible. | Composited into the video file you save. Never stored separately, never uploaded. |
| Microphone | To record your voice together with the screen and to show the green level glow on the Mic button. You can mute and unmute at any time while recording. The optional gain boost (up to 3×) is applied on your Mac. | Mixed into the audio track of the video file you save. Never uploaded. |
| Mouse pointer position and left-button state | To decide where to zoom in when you click, to draw the big smooth pointer and the click ripple into the video, and to let you drag the recording frame, the bubble and the toolbar. ShowMe reads only the pointer’s position and whether the left button is down, using standard macOS APIs; it does not read keystrokes, does not install an event tap and does not need Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission. | Used in real time to compose each video frame; never logged or stored. |
| Your desktop wallpaper | Only if you choose the “Your wallpaper” backdrop style: ShowMe reads your current desktop picture to draw a blurred version of it behind the recording. Other backdrop styles use built-in gradients. | Drawn into the video frame; never copied or uploaded. |
| A folder you choose | To save finished recordings. The first time you record, ShowMe asks you to choose a folder (Movies is suggested). macOS gives ShowMe a “security-scoped bookmark” so it can remember that folder after a relaunch. | Only the files you record are written there. The bookmark is stored locally in the app’s sandbox container. |
| App preferences | Zoom, pointer and backdrop settings; quality (720p–4K) and frame rate; bubble size and position; toolbar position; chosen camera and microphone; microphone gain; the recording-frame size; the chosen save folder; and whether Pro is active. | Stored locally in macOS user defaults inside the app’s sandbox container. Never uploaded. |
ShowMe runs inside the macOS App Sandbox with the Hardened Runtime enabled. It has no entitlement to make outgoing network connections, which means the app is technically unable to send data to the internet.
4. What we do not collect
ShowMe does not collect, and we do not receive, any of the following:
- your name, email address, phone number, Apple Account or any other account information (the app has no sign-in);
- your recordings, screenshots, camera frames or audio;
- your mouse movements, clicks or keystrokes (pointer data is used live to draw the video and is never stored);
- your location, contacts, calendar, photos, browsing history or the content of other apps;
- your IP address or device identifiers (the app makes no network requests);
- usage analytics, telemetry, crash reports or performance data;
- advertising identifiers — the app contains no advertising or third-party SDKs;
- cookies or similar tracking technologies.
Because we collect nothing, we have nothing to sell, share, profile or combine with other sources. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information within the meaning of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or similar laws.
5. Your recordings
Your recordings belong to you. They are saved as standard H.264 MP4 files in the folder you choose, on your own Mac. We cannot see, access, recover or delete them. Deleting a recording is as simple as deleting the file in Finder.
A recording can contain personal data about other people — for example, faces or voices of participants in a video call, messages on your screen, or documents you have open. Because ShowMe zooms in on what you click, details that would be small on screen can appear large in the video. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to record and use that content, including obtaining consent where the law of your country requires it (many jurisdictions require the consent of all parties before recording a call or conversation) and respecting confidentiality and copyright. The Terms of Use set this out in more detail.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
The ShowMe Pro subscription (a monthly charge, with a free trial where one is offered) is sold and processed exclusively by Apple through the Mac App Store using Apple’s StoreKit framework. When you subscribe:
- Apple collects and processes your payment details, billing address and Apple Account information under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We never see your payment card, billing address or Apple Account details.
- To unlock Pro features, the app verifies your subscription status on your Mac using Apple’s signed transaction data. This contains an anonymised transaction identifier, the product purchased, and the purchase, renewal and expiry dates. It does not contain your name or contact details.
- In App Store Connect, Apple shows us aggregated sales figures and anonymised transaction records so that we can be paid and handle support. We cannot link these to an individual unless you contact us and choose to share an order reference.
You can view, manage or cancel the subscription at any time in System Settings › Apple Account › Media & Purchases › Subscriptions, or in the App Store app under your account. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Permissions and how to revoke them
macOS asks for your permission before ShowMe can record the screen or use the camera or microphone. You can grant or revoke each permission at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security under Screen & System Audio Recording, Camera and Microphone. If you revoke a permission, the related feature stops working (for example, Test View and recording go dark without screen-recording access; the bubble goes dark without camera access) but the rest of the app keeps working. Reading the pointer position needs no permission and cannot be separately revoked; it stops when you quit the app.
8. Data retention and deletion
We retain no personal data from the app, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side. Everything ShowMe creates lives on your Mac and is under your control:
- Recordings — delete the MP4 files from the folder you chose.
- Preferences and folder bookmark — delete the app’s sandbox container at
~/Library/Containers/com.swiftcpc.showme, or simply delete the app; macOS removes the container with it. - Subscription records — held by Apple under Apple’s retention rules; visible in your Apple Account purchase history.
If you email us for support, we keep that correspondence for up to 24 months after the matter is closed so we can help with follow-up questions, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time (see Your rights).
9. When you contact us
If you contact us by email, WhatsApp or phone, we will process the contact details you give us and the content of your message solely to answer your question, fix a problem or handle a request. The legal basis is the performance of our contract with you (if you are a customer) or our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. We do not add you to any marketing list and we do not share your message with third parties, except for the email or messaging provider that delivers it (for example Apple iCloud Mail or WhatsApp, under their own privacy policies).
10. Children
ShowMe is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 16 (the digital age of consent in Ireland) or under 13 (COPPA in the United States). Because the app collects no data, no child data can be collected through it. If you believe a child has sent us personal data by contacting us, please email us and we will delete it.
11. Your rights (GDPR and other laws)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have it corrected or erased; restrict or object to its processing; receive a copy in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis. In practice, the only personal data we may hold is support correspondence you sent us.
To exercise any right, email nnmedialtd@icloud.com. We will respond within one month. There is no charge. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Ireland that is the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28.
If you are a resident of California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have similar rights to know, delete and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use it for targeted advertising. The same email address can be used for any request; we will verify requests using the email address the request is sent from.
12. Security
The strongest protection for your data is that it never leaves your Mac. In addition, ShowMe is sandboxed, signed with Apple’s Hardened Runtime, notarised and reviewed by Apple, uses only Apple’s system frameworks (ScreenCaptureKit, AVFoundation, Core Image, StoreKit) and contains no third-party code. The app uses no encryption beyond what macOS provides.
13. International transfers
ShowMe transfers no data anywhere. Support emails are stored with our email provider, which may process data outside the EEA under standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. Apple’s processing of your purchase data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
14. These web pages
The ShowMe legal and support pages at swiftcpc.com/legal/ set no cookies and contain no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Our web host records standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) for security and to keep the site running; these are retained for a short period and are not used to identify you. Other parts of the swiftcpc.com website, which are unrelated to ShowMe, may use advertising measurement tags; those are described on that site.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change how ShowMe handles data — for example, if a future version adds an optional feature that uses the network — we will update this page, change the effective date at the top, describe the change in the App Store release notes and, where the law requires, ask for your consent inside the app before the new processing begins. The current version is always available at swiftcpc.com/legal/showme/privacy.html.
